Bishop Sutton Pre-School & Forest Club, Newsletter May 2019

YOUR PRE-SCHOOL NEEDS YOU!

This summer’s an important one: as you’re likely to have heard, on Friday 21 June we are throwing a party to celebrate our beloved pre-school’s 50th birthday. This is a momentous milestone for the village and a chance to raise a glass to the many ways in which our children, and those in families across the past five decades, have benefitted.

Will you come and help us to PARTY LIKE IT’S 1969? On 21 June Bishop Sutton Village Hall will be transformed into an out-of-this-world venue: expect Live Music from the amazing Treasury Band, playing all your favourite songs from then up till now, a delicious hog roast and a fully stocked cash bar, PLUS a free drink on arrival AND a signature cocktail designed especially for the event! Grab your friends and come along to dance through the decades. This half-century birthday is a total one-off and we promise to give the pre-school a night to remember. Support us by buying your tickets – only £15 – from one of the committee at pre-school drop-off or pick-up, or via EventBritehttp://www.tinyurl.com/partylikeits1969.

Now, helping us party is the easy bit! On to the favours Our pre-school is a charity and its funding relies entirely on efforts made by volunteers on the committee and by parents. Without the money we earn from fundraising events, there simply wouldn’t be a pre-school for our children to go to. So, if you can, please do your bit!

On Sunday 9 June we’re putting on our usual refreshment stall at the Chew Valley 10K. Please could you donate a cake for us? We need to provide 1000 portions – yes, that’s right, it’s a lot of cake. If you’re hopeless at baking, don’t worry, shop-bought is just as welcome, and it can be anything from brownies to cupcakes to Victoria sponge.

If you’re feeling extra generous we also need hands on deck on the day. Can you spare us an hour of your Sunday to do a selling shift? We’d massively appreciate it. The Chew Valley 10K is one of the fundraising highlights of the year, and the more help we have, the better our chances of success. Remember all money made comes straight back into the pre-school and to supporting our little ones’ play and learning. Look out for sign-up sheets in the pre-school lobby and please don’t be shy! Alternatively speak to Chairperson Clare, or me, Emma: we’ll be looking after cake business on the day J.

Furthermore, if you’re interested in marshaling the run, the Primary School is still looking for a few more volunteers to fulfill their quota. Contact Lisa Elliott on 07791 787019.

If you’re away for that but would still like to contribute, Chew Moo’s Open Day will be happening on Saturday 6 July. Pre-school mum Suzanne is set to throw a phenomenal day for all the family, building on the considerable successes of her previous Open Days and offering even more fun activities this year, from bouncy castles to tractor trailer rides, pony rides, a kids’ entertainer and even a live band as the sun goes down. We’re really pleased to be invited to run a couple of stalls. Will you volunteer to put in an hour of your time to help on these? If you would, just let one of us know, or a member of staff, and we’ll be happy to put your name down.

Another date for your diaries is the Annual General Meeting on Thursday 27 June. This is a great opportunity to meet parents and hear what’s been happening at the pre-school and all that’s coming up for the year ahead. Do come along, all are welcome, mums and dads. You can just sit and listen – or, if you’d like to play a greater part and join the committee then we’d be thrilled. You can sign up in whatever capacity, big or small, and you don’t need any special experience (except maybe chatting and drinking wine/snaffling Quality Streets).

Being on the committee is a fun way to get together and feel involved. If you’d like to join but can’t make it to the AGM then that’s no problem – just let us know BEFORE the AGM by telling Lin or Julie, or filling in the forms that will be on the table in the foyer very soon.

And remember, after the AGM we’ll be heading down to the Red Lion for the traditional booze-up! We hope to see lots of you there.

In the shorter term, we’re excited about our school trip to Avon Valley Farm next Wednesday 22 June, followed of course by parents’ evening in the School Room between six and eight p.m. For those with children at Forest Club, we also enjoyed our tour of the green space earlier this month. The children are so incredibly chuffed with their forest and it was lovely to see how it inspires their imagination. Feasts were being prepared in the Mud Kitchen, stories written on keyboards under the Evergreen Laurel, and the very important Forest Club Rules imparted to us round the Fire Pit. It was a joy.

So much to be proud of at our lovely pre-school, and so much still to come! Please support us, if you can.

Best wishes,

Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club Committee
