On Saturday 14 October 2017 Bishop Sutton Village Hall was packed with people from far and wide who enjoyed a fabulous night of comedy and curry, courtesy of the fantastic Dr Phil Hammond and Sutton Spice restaurant.
Phil Hammond brought comedy home to Bishop Sutton with an unforgettable evening of amusing anecdotes and side-splitting stories drawn from his 30-year career as a NHS GP, and delivered with first-class stand-up showmanship – and of course his wonderful West Country meets Western Australian accent! We learnt about his theories of life, love and surviving the NHS, neatly summarised as ‘CLANGERS’, and were entertained with his many stories, experiences and observations – and the audience even got involved too (just ask them about the ‘hugging’!)
Dr Phil’s ‘Hilarious Homecoming’ gig was organised by the parent committee of Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club to raise essential funds for the pre-school and we are so very pleased to say that the final total will be well over £1500!
Annabelle Spinney, chair of the parent committee, says, ‘What a wonderful evening of entertainment and food and fundraising! Thank you to the team of volunteers who made it happen and to the audience who helped us to raise these key funds to replenish toys, materials and resources at our village pre-school.”
Come and join in the festive fun as once again Bishop Sutton Pre-School hosts the Chew Valley Christmas Fayre, on Saturday 9 December 2017 at Bishop Sutton Village Hall from 12pm to 4pm.
We will be bringing together a host of festive suppliers of gifts and produce, including local Christmas trees and decorations, and there will also be plenty of magic and sparkle for our little guests, with our Christmas crafting workshops and Santa Storytime sessions (at 1.30pm and 3pm). Our local health visitor, Anita, will again be popping in to our Pre-School reception area on Wednesday 11 October at 9 – 9.45am for a casual drop-in for any local parents of under 5’s who want to chat and ask advice about any aspect of parenting. Whether you are worried about your child’s development, healthy eating, tantrums or potty-training, then she will be happy to help.
So come along and say hello and pick Anita’s brains on how she and the health visitor team can provide support, information and advice on child behaviour and development, parenting, play and relationships, keeping safe, managing family issues and accessing a range of other services. It’s our first parents’ night out for the new academic year, so come along and join us for a drink and chat in the Red Lion, Bishop Sutton from 8pm on Friday 29 September 2017.
This is a great chance to meet other new parents from Bishop Sutton Pre-School or to catch up with old friends. Everyone welcome!
